Streaks in Portsmouth's Basketball History Updated 11/9/2023

There have been several streaks in Portsmouth's rich basketball history. Listed below are some of the noteworthy streaks:

1. Portsmouth won 5 straight regional final games from 1961-1990 (1961, 1978, 1980, 1988, 1990), and 4 straight from 1927-1934 (1927, 1929, 1931, 1934).
2. Portsmouth made at least 1 appearance in the state tournament in 3 straight decades (1920's, 1930's, 1940's), then made state appearances in 4 straight decades (1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's).
3. Portsmouth won 7 straight state semifinal games from 1931-1990 (1931, 1934, 1961, 1978, 1980, 1988, 1990).
4. Portsmouth won the Ohio-Kentucky Athletic Conference 5 years in a row from 1987-1991.
5. Portsmouth had at least one 20 PPG scorer in 5 straight decades (1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's).
6. Portsmouth recorded at least 20 wins in 6 straight seasons (1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984).
7. Portsmouth won 5 straight sectional and district championships from 1987-1991.
8. Portsmouth had 9 straight winning decades (1910's, 1920's, 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's)  The decade from 2000-2009 is the only losing decade in PHS history (100-121).
9. Portsmouth had at least 2 district championships from 6 consecutive coaches (Bill Rohr 1947-1951), George Heller (1952-1968), Bob Doll (1969-1975), Dick Hopkins (1976-1981), Tom Smith (1982-1987), Joe Suboticki (1988-1991).
10. Portsmouth's longest tournament winning streak is 11 games (8 tournament games in 1978, and the first 3 in 1979). The streak was ended by Ironton in the 1979 district championship.
11. Portsmouth's longest winning streak in all games is 29 (8 tournament games in 1978, and the first 21 games in 1979).
12. Portsmouth's longest streak of winning seasons was from 1963-1984. In 1962, the Trojans were 1-17, and in 1985 the Trojans went 10-12.
13. Portsmouth recorded at least one 20 win season in 5 straight decades (1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's).
14. Portsmouth had a streak of 32 straight wins collectively vs. Logan, Gallia Academy, and Jackson (have swept each school twice 5 years in a row).
15. Portsmouth's 3 straight losing seasons from 2019-2021 is tied for the 2nd longest in school history. The longest period of consecutive losing seasons was from 2003-2009. (Updated 3/1/21)

16. Portsmouth has currently lost 16 games in a row to Fairland (updated 12/17/22). Haven't beaten the Dragons since the 2015 season.

17. Portsmouth hasn't finished higher than 5th in the OVC final standings for 5 straight years. 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

Update July 9, 2015: Portsmouth had won 32 straight games vs. Jackson, Gallia Academy, and Logan until the Chieftains ended the streak with a 60-56 win at PHS in the very last SEOAL game between the 2 schools. Over the last 6 years, the Trojans went 11-1 vs. D1 Logan.
